Jo Whitsell, L.Ac graduated with honors in 2003 from Tristate College of Acupuncture in New York where she maintained a full time practice. In 2010 she moved back to her hometown of Portland, OR where she joyfully resides.
Jo has participated in postgraduate studies with numerous master practitioners including a residency at Beth Israel’s Continuum Center for Health & Healing in NYC under Arya Neilsen, L.Ac. Since 2004, she has had a continued relationship of postgraduate learning with master practitioner Lorie Eve Dechar, Lac. in Alchemical Acupuncture. She holds a Green Medicine certificate in western herbs & studied Practical Homeopathy as taught by Peeka Trenkle AHG, CCE. When appropriate she incorporates into her sessions manually based modalities such as reflexology, Zero Balancing, massage as well as flower essences, aromatherapy and homeopathy. For over twenty years she has participated in various spiritual and depth psychology practices including Reichian therapy with Michele Newmark, Taoist & Buddhist theory and Jungian studies. She is an active supporter of the P:ear, an organization that builds positive relationships with homeless and transitional youth through education, art and recreation to affirm personal worth and create more meaningful and healthier lives. She is also a supporter of the Portland Art Museum and currently holds a position on the Advancement Committee. She is the proud owner of Maplewood Coffee & Tea located in SW Portland.
In her spare time Jo is dedicated to being curious, interested and open to life. Whether in her backyard or around the world, she loves to travel, explore and feel connected. Jo has had various daily practices of yoga including Iyengar, Kundalini and Ashtanga. She is now working on finding wonder in the mundane.
